Wyoming cat
This hunt was basically an "I can't see myself working today" hunt! At 6:00 A.M. my friend called me from Cokeville, WY which was about 3 hours from my home on a GOOD day but this was NOT a good day due to the snow we were receiving so I had a 4+ hour drive. He said we've cut tracks of a big cat but they are not super fresh and it's snowing so you'll need to hurry! haha I drove a super modified Chevy Duramax at the time and top speed was about 155mph but not on snow/ice covered roads! I still managed to get there way quicker than most any sane person could've. We hopped on the snowmobiles & headed up the mountain for about 25 minutes finding another friend that had the dogs ready to run! We cut 'em loose and the chase was on. I am in good shape but this hunt was brutal on me! Lungs burning in the cold air & having to hike/RUN in deep snow for almost 4 hours to catch up to the cat. Along the way we had realized the dogs had switched tracks to a different cat but the track still looked like it would be a decent cougar so we kept on. When we finally made it down to the dogs at the bayed cat and upon inspection decided he would definitely fit the bill. We made a fire and ate lunch, I took some great photo's of him while the other guys were making the lunch. When we finished eating my buddy said to me "you ready?" DUMB QUESTION! I was ready when I got to the tree but I will have to say that was one of the best lunches I've ever had in the woods. Watching that cougar laying on the branches of the pine tree and growling & snarling at the dogs barking at the bottom of the tree. After finding the best spot to loose an arrow I made a phenomenal heart shot and it was over in just seconds. He fell from the tree and the dogs pounced on him! That was their reward for their hard work and efforts. What an amazing hunt this was up in the mountains of Wyoming! I look forward to drawing another tag and running again.
